Constance White To Receive Fashion Cultural Icon Award at Harlem Fashion Week Season 5. White is renowned for her wealth of experience and significant contributions across print, broadcast and online. A veteran writer, editor and arbiter of culture and style, Ms. White has helped steer, brand and editorial direction for some of the most exciting companies.
Ms. White has served as editor-in-chief of Essence magazine, and a style director, brand consultant and spokesperson for the leading online company eBay. White is currently a consulting editor for Silicon Valley start-up Ozy.com.
She is the author of Stylenoir, a groundbreaking book on black style, published by Perigee/Putnam and has recently released, How to Slay: Inspiration from the Queens and Kings of Black Style: An inspirational journey through black fashion in America from the twentieth century to the present, featuring the most celebrated icons of Black style and taste.
Ms. White will receive her award on September 6, 2018 at the Harlem Fashion Week Charity Gala located at Renaissance Restaurant in Harlem. Harlem Fashion Week seeks to create a cultural platform through the art of fashion. We believe in Fashion with a message. As a result HFW supports 2 charities for Season 5: Uptown Dance Academy located in Harlem and the Senegalese American Bilingual School in Senegal W. Africa. Supporting the cultural growth of children will support the legacy of Harlem History.
Constance will also have a “Signature Space” with a book signing on September 8th at the Harlem Fashion Week Runway Show at the Museum of the City of New York.
The founders of Harlem Fashion Week are the Powerhouse mother-daughter team of Tandra Birkett and Yvonne Jewnell, owners of the fashion design companyYvonne Jewnell New York LLC. Harlem Fashion Week will be an explosion of culture that will bridge the Downtown fashion hub to the Uptown vibe for a rich cultural experience.
