Ann Yee’s latest Spring/Summer 2014 collection titled ‘RESURGENCE’ is inspired by the history of urban Detroit. Ann a native of Michigan, combines ‘the current crumbling economic state with the survivalist spirit of the city as it moves towards a transformation.’
The looks are juxtapositioned structural cuts with soft draping. The color tones of ivory, taupe and grey that Ann uses are very visual in telling her story of the Motor City. Perhaps its very literal to say that those colors are a metaphor for the current state but the brighter hues of rouge, periwinkle, mint, olive and citron refers to her optimism for her native state. My favorite is a photographic print constructed exclusively for this collection and made from family photographs of Yee’s cousin and brother. She also include photos of iconic buildings from Detroit such as the Metropolitan and Wurlitzer buildings. The prints were used to create two beautiful but yet modern looks she calls the ‘Tillman Printed Blazer’ as well as a ‘Conner Printed Trouser’. Fabric choices are also used accordingly to tell her tale of ‘RESURGENCE’, and includes her signature knitwear designs, along with tweeds which adds to the mastery of Ann Yee’s vision for her latest collection. Check out the collection and let us know which are your favorite looks.
